Are you bored of hearing "Do they sleep through the night?". It is one of the first questions that you get asked as a parent of a baby. This question automatically puts pressure on parents, especially when your child is not at the developmental stage yet. Nothing prepares you for the sleep deprivation when your baby arrives but knowing when the best time is to ask for help is a good way to start. It can be simply to ask a family member or friend to come and help you for a few hours while you catch up on some sleep, or it could be to work out between you and your partner a system so that you are both getting enough rest.
A good night's sleep is essential for growth and development of your child but also for the wellbeing and health of you and your family, seeking help from a professional could be all you need. With more mothers than ever going back to work, a good night's sleep is essential.
There are so many things that run through a parent's mind, am I doing the right thing? Should I be doing something different? You can type all of these questions into google and get a thousand different answers, but the truth is, there is no right or wrong way to parent, you don't leave the hospital with a guidebook. A child's sleep pattern is exactly the same, what may work for one family, will not work with another. I do not have the same sleep pattern as my husband, but it works for us both. So, if you are consistently asking yourself why my child isn't sleeping or is my child getting enough sleep. Maybe you are worrying that your child isn't safe while sleeping, these are what I would call a trigger point where it may be time to get some support. Some other trigger points can be if not getting enough sleep is starting to affect your mental well-being, or maybe it is starting to affect your relationship with your partner. All these things are totally normal and asking for help or support is nothing to be ashamed of.
